The sediment cleanup of Jack's Marine North Slip is complete!
Multiple site investigations after the Great Lakes Legacy Act sediment cleanup in the Ashtabula River in 2006–2007 revealed the Jack's Marine North Slip remained a hotspot for residual contamination in the river. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (Ohio EPA) addressed the source of the contamination in the slip. In 2013, Ohio EPA partnered with U. S. EPA to clean up nearly 12,000 cubic yards of contaminated sediment.
After dredging, Ohio EPA installed a 6 inch sand cover over the entire North Slip. The cleanup in the Jack's Marine North Slip prevents recontamination of the Ashtabula River.
