The reason why we mention all these historic industries and historic input is that makes the site that much more complex. Different types of activities mean different types of chemicals are in those sediments.... We were able to focus on a few [contaminants], and there are others that are co-located. If we clean up for PCBs, mercury, PAHs, and in some cases pH, we'll pretty much be able to get all of the contamination."

The Upper Trenton Channel project is currently in the design stage. The start time for the cleanup is TBD. Once a project is agreed to, the remediation will likely take two field seasons to complete. A field season typically lasts 4-10 months, but can be affected by fish spawning and freezing weather. Fish spawning windows of time in the Detroit River vary, but can last from approximately March to June.

The proposed project area hugs the western shoreline of the channel. It begins at the BASF Northworks facility and continues south to the MPI Facility near the Grosse Ile Toll Bridge.
The project is currently in design. More technical information will be provided once it's available.
